Also, you will come across the possible issues you might face while using this router so without further ado, let’s jump right into it.

Bosh 1617EVSPK Review

Design

Isn’t this the first thing that catches your eyes whenever you are buying new equipment?

The device comes with two bases; a standard wooden base that is furnished with a clear bottom allowing you to track the router as it cuts through the wood.  Also, it has a plunge base for more precise and detailed cuts.

The motor housing of the Bosh1617EVSPK as well as, its bases are inside an aluminum case rendering it durable and strong lasting for years without any damage.

The handles on the fixed base are wooden whereas you can find a soft grip handle on the plunge base. This gives you more control and support making this router comfortable to use.

Moreover, these bases have quick clamp systems making it easy to move your motor from one base to another without the need to involve any other tools.

Add to this the fact that both fixed and plunge bases are provided with a precision centering design ensuring that it’s on the desired cutting line.

It must be pointed out that the power switch is dust sealed which further extending its resistance to damage preventing dust from building up inside, which is one of the common reasons for early switch failure when using other routers.

Horsepower,Variable speed, and constant performance

This is one of the crucial aspects to bear in mind before purchasing a wood router.

The Bosh 1617EVSPK is a real beast provided with a 2.25 horsepower motor.

It is quite impressive how its horsepower is no less than that of the large table models.

Even though it is a medium sized router, it has a variable speed dial with an RPM ranging from 8,000 the lowest speed setting, up to 25,000 rotations per minute.

Nevertheless, the speed could be set to 6 different settings.

The first 3 settings range from 8,000 RPM to 16,000 RPM and are more suitable to use with large diameters and cutting through metals.

On the other hand, the next 3 settings range from 20.000 to 25,000 and hence they are more suitable to be used with smaller diameters and plastics.

Moreover, the device has a constant response to the circuitry. This allows you to achieve a persistent and steady performance.

Another absolute favorite feature is that the speed is controlled electronically.

Soft Start Motor

One of the best properties of the Bosh 1617EVSPK router is that you don’t need to worry about how it will happen the minute you turn it on for the first time.

Usually, tools like this are a bit violent, for a lot of us, myself included, this forces the tool to drop from my hands every once in a while.

However, using this device is more comfortable than using other routers.  Due to the soft start feature, the motor loses that torque and together with the consistent speed mentioned above, it gives you an outstanding performance.

Other accessories you will find in the box

The set comes with two different bits.

You will be able to find 2 wrenches ( 16 mm and 24 mm) inside the box that you can use to adjust your router or replace your bit.

Another thing included with the router is a shield that you can apply to the fixed base to prevent the little pieces and chips from damaging the bit.

Not to mention that it comes with its own carrying case.

Bosch 1617EVSPK vs DeWalt DW618PK

These two routers are the bestselling on the market that a lot of woodworkers go through the dilemma of which one to choose.

On so many levels, these two will almost give you the same performance. However, the Bosch 1617EVSPK  takes the upper hand.

This router has a better RPM performance than its counter, also the  DeWalt DW618PK is not suitable for commercial use and doesn’t come with an edge tool guide. Add to this, the fact that it has a lower power.

The only reason you might consider purchasing the DeWalt DW618PK rather than the Bosch 1617EVSPK  is that the latter happens to be more expensive, yet, the way I see it, it’s simply value for money.

Impressively, it can be used separately or installed on a router table so it is a convenient option to go with. It has a strong motor. It is easy to use and most importantly, it’s durable so it is definitely worth your money.
